Thanks to Chubbybots’s post, at last I got my Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Bases! I have been searching for them since the previous outing. I always wanted to build a mechanical base as my mecha’s photo shoot background.
I actually bought 5 of the Mechanical Chain Bases (004, 005, 006 x 2 and 009) to create a huge base . But later I discovered 009’s wall unit cannot join together the same way as the rest. Orz… Oh ya, since Chubbbots already did a detailed review on 005, please refer to his post for more in-depth explanation.
The 009’s wall is meant to fit into left side of 004/005/006’s floor, rather than the same slot as the 004/005/006 wall unit. So far I assume 001-003 and 007-010 wall unit using the same mechanism, while 004 – 006 share another type. I’ll do a detail review to cover this mechanism thing in part 2. If you worry about the mechanism, I suggest you read my review part 2 before buying them.
Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Base 004 Review
The packaging and the completed Mechanical Chain Base 004. I agree with Chubb, the material is pretty solid and the parts can easily join/remove.
The front view. There are a lot of details everywhere.
004 specialty 1: The small size foot rest (Catapult). Note that only this small version able to fit right in front of the wall.
004 specialty 2: The mini truck, weapon carrier, container carrier and 3 medium size containers.
Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Base 006 Review
The packaging and the completed Mechanical Chain Base 006.
The front view. The wall and floor are exactly the same as 004.
006 specialty 1: The large size foot rest (Catapult). Note that this is the nearest I can get to the wall with the 2 big foot rest.
006 specialty 2: The 3 small containers. The 3rd one I put it next to the wall.
006 specialty 3: The signal lights. There are 3 parts for this, the upper 2 lights, lower 2 lights and the pole. This thingy is the reason why I bought 2 unit of 006 instead of 004 and 005.
Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Base 004 + 006
Now the fun part begins. Join both of Mechanical Chain Base together and you will get something much better out of it. This version uses 004 + 006.
After seeing so many photos, how big is the base and how it look like when I put my mecha there? Let me use the Revoltech EVA-01 as benchmark since it is around the size of a 1/144 Gundam.
The base is just tall enough for 1/144 gundam or Revoltech Figures. But this won’t look good for my photo shoot =\
EVA-01’s feet on 004’s small catapult. I think the size just nice. The gap between them is adjustable, it allow us to make it slightly wider or narrower.
EVA-01’s feet on 006’s large catapult. A bit too big for EVA…
Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Base 004 + 005 + 006 x 2
Gattai! 4X Mechanical Base! Muahahahahaha! Now we have more space to play around. This is needed if you want to put Soul of Chogokin or 1/100 Master Grade Gunpla. Noted that I did not include 009 here, in the photo only has 004, 005, 006 and 006. Time is limited so I didn’t include the detail parts of 005 and the other 006.
A test shot uses Revoltech EVA-01 with the base as background. It looks great!
To be honest, I would need another 1 unit so I can extend the base width, else it is pretty restricted if I have more than 1 figure to be on the base. I’ll write a part 2 for this Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Base, introduce 009 and how it work compare to the rest.
